This morning the kids pulled a small reindeer out of the advent box. It was a reindeer marathon of sorts today. They started by watching Rudolph this morning while I took a shower (it aired last night on CBS and I recorded it). I
am sure Allan has seen it before, but it was one of those moments where it seemed to be the first time he was really 'watching' the movie. This movie is second on Lorelei's list of favorites, with Frosty running number one.
Then we moved on to creating our own reindeer out of paper. First I traced their feet. Then I traced their hands. Next after I cut all the pieces out the gluing began. Lorelei is now a glue dribbling pro and did great putting her reindeer together. She even cut out the white eye pieces by herself and colored black pupils inside them. Then she moved onto adding other items to make her reindeer "beautiful". I tied a bow for her to add to the head (like Clarice on Rudolph), then she found other Christmas items to glue on also.
Allan sat on my lap as I helped him with the glue. He stuck everything down, then we added more non-conventional items to his also. I tried and let him do some of this himself. He seemed quite proud with what he created. Both reindeer turned out so cute. I finally convinced them tonight to let me hang them on the window, all day they have been playing with them and I was afraid they would get ruined.
Later this afternoon Lorelei and I created jars of Magic Reindeer Feed as gifts for her cousins. I let her create most of the layers herself (we use food items, mostly spices, oatmeal and cookie sprinkles from the cupboard). Then I stamped the tags and she colored them. (The finished picture of the reindeer food is one I created by myself for Hampton Arts using their reindeer stamp. The stamp can be found at Michaels as a holiday promotion.)
Here is a poem I found on the internet that you can include on the back of the Magic Reindeer Feed tag:
Sprinkle on the lawn at night.
The moon will make it sparkle bright.
As Santa's reindeer fly and roam,
This will guide them to my home!
