Last night after the kids were in bed Steve and I assembled the tree. Mostly it was Steve this year, I just handed him branches. The kids were excited to come downstairs and to see the tree in the living room this morning. Both wanted to decorate right away, but mean Mom made them eat breakfast and get dressed first.
Then the decorating began. I handed them ornaments and they hung them on the tree. Most ended up on the back side of the tree where they were standing on the fireplace hearth. I tried to distribute some of the more breakable ones throughout the rest of the tree.
They are both curious to see any and all decorations we are putting up in the house. Most items are things I don't want them to be able to touch… but I kept some of those in the boxes. Maybe in a few years when they are older it will be a better time to display those items.
During the next few weeks we will be making more items we can put out around the house. I think that will be exciting for them. I am hoping I can be relaxed about it and let them have free reign as to where they want to place the decorations they make.
